4. Photometric profiles of stars. Over 16,000 frames were taken in the observation season from May through June 1965. For the given aperture and observation season, satisfactory results were obtained with exposures of not over 8 msec. For 100- and 60-msec exposures, the images showed appreciable averaging (average dimensions of 5-4"). From the 16,000 frames, 10,000 were selected for a statistical estimate of the ratio of good images to the total number for manual and for automatic control. The other 6000 were rejected, either because of the observation conditions (clouds, wind) or overexposure.
